There could be no lovelier setting than a medieval palace for a wedding reception. The Bishop's Palace in Wells, surrounded by outer battlements and a moat, is a fairytale location in every sense of the word.

Once through the Gatehouse, the magnificent thirteenth century Palace lies in front of you. To the south are the romantic ruins of Bishop Robert Burnell's Great Hall. The gardens which surround these beautiful medieval buildings are all available for the enjoyment of you and your guests.

You may wish to begin with a champagne reception in the Entrance Hall. During the summer months, your party can enjoy the warm sunshine with canapés on the South lawn.

As members of Taste of the West, great emphasis is placed on fresh seasonal home cooked food, sourced from local producers. The wedding breakfast is served in the vaulted Undercroft seating up to 120 people.

As all the catering is carried out by the Palace caterers, we can ensure that you specific requirements are met, and make suggestions that will keep to your budget.

The wedding cake is usually served with coffee in one of the first-floor rooms, thus providing your guests with an opportunity to view other parts of the Palace. The upper floors also provide a quiet haven later in the day for those who wish to sit or chat quietly away from the any evening entertainment that may take place on the ground floor.

Help with other arrangements is also available. Years of experience has resulted in contacts with tried and trusted suppliers, including musicians, florists and photographers.

There is as much support and guidance as you wish. It's all part of the service! Please do get in touch with us for further information, available dates, and to make an appointment to view the Palace yourselves.
